Steve

Steve Reeder is taking his brand of high energy rock and roll out to the world. Growing up in rural central Florida as a teen, he was convinced there was no reconciliation between the hyper-masculine world of 80's heavy metal and the disco and drag dominating the gay scene.

"My older brothers got me hooked on KISS and Van Halen records (8-tracks too) in the late 1970's. It wasn't long before my collection was filled Judas Priest, Ratt, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Kix, Cinderella, and AC/DC."

"About this time, puberty had fully set in and it dawned on me that there was a big difference between me and all the 'rocker dudes', both on TV and at school. They were all totally enthralled by football, cars and women. I was interested in the football coaches, cowboys in Wranglers, and Matt Houston. Of course, this did not coalesce with the message I was getting on MTV: girls, girls, girls! There was no way I was gonna pull off fitting in that scene with any dignity or satisfaction. In the meantime, I come of age and go to the most readily available gay social outlet at the time: the bars. There you were fed a strict diet of Madonna, Pet Shop boys, and anything indiscernible set to a looping 'thump-thump' beat. I felt I had one foot each in two worlds where I had no place. What to do?"

"In the mid-1990's, an internet search brought me to an artist named Sid Spencer. The discovery of an openly gay country singer was both outrageous and very refreshing. If Sid could find an audience, then so could a hard rocking guy like me. I wouldn't be doing this if I hadn't found Sid Spencer."

Indeed the passage of time has opened up a new world. The outing of several mainstream rockers like Freddie Mercury, Rob Halford and Chuck Panozzo has opened the eyes of many. Now, in the age of the internet, gay rockers can easily connect with the likes of Pansy Division and Jinx Titanic. Add to that mix Steve Reeder. Drawing on lifelong influences such as KISS, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Motley Crue, Steve has brought new life and meaning to 'cock rock.'

Steve Reeder!Steve has performed at a number of Bearapalooza and pride events around the U.S., as well as King's Island Pride Night, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The debut CD, Steve Reeder! is a feast of meat & potatoes power-chord electric guitar rock and roll. The first single, the anthemic rocker "Right To Be" has garnered over 100 plays on Qnation.fm in its first five months of release. The ribald swagger of "Ode To A Fine Ass Man" and the defiance of "My Slammin' Door" contrast well with the funky and insightful "A Little Bit." Also covered are two rock classics: Bon Jovi's "Living In Sin," which takes on a new poignancy in the modern era, and a ballsy cover of KISS' "Deuce" that would crack the rafters of any dance club.
